FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Pitt-Bradford Lady Panthers pitched a
pair of gems to sweep a doubleheader against Northwestern in
college softball Monday.
In the opener, Mallory Kane hurled a one-hitter and collected
seven strikeouts to give Pitt-Bradford a 21-0 shutout.
Pitt-Bradford used a 20-hit attack led by Michelle Kushner
(double, triple and 4 RBIs), Nikki Ewings (2-for-2 with a double
and an RBI), Tiffany Washington (2-for-2 with two RBIs), Leann
Kramer (two hits and two RBIs), Katrina Retterer (two hits and an
RBI) and Jessica Keane (three hits).
“Offensively we were strong,” noted Tina Phillips, UPB head
coach. “It was a good team effort. Everyone got some playing time
today.”
In the nightcap, the Lady Panthers topped Northwestern 9-2.
Brittany McLean smashed a grand slam in the fourth inning.
“Brittany really broke the game open today,” praised
Phillips.
Kristy Zavinski was on the mound, firing a three-hitter and
fanning nine.
“Zavinski’s drop was working really well today,” Phillips
added.
Offensively, Zavinski also added two hits and two RBIs, while
Keane and Kushner each drilled doubles.
The Lady Panthers (3-1) face Davis & Elkins (4-0) today.
