Hannon wins state titles

STATE COLLEGE – Bradford High’s Erin Hannon won four state
medals including two golds at the PTFCA State Indoor Championships
at Penn State on Saturday.

They are Hannon’s first state titles and give her a total of 10
state indoor medals.

Hannon won the high jump (5’6″) and triple jump (38’8 1/2″). Her
triple jump distance is a best for this year.

Hannon placed second in the long jump (18’3 1/4″) and she won
her first 60-meter hurdle medal with a sixth place run of 9.27, her
best ever time.

Sarah Lonzi won her first state medal with a seventh place
finish in the 3000-meter run with an indoor record time of
10:29.22. She also placed 11th in the mile run with an indoor
record time of 5:16.90.

“This was a great day for these two young ladies and for our
program,” Bradford coach Larry Stillman declared. “To finish in the
top three in the state is incredible. Erin and Sarah have worked so
hard to achieve this success. Erin has devoted the last four years
to winning a state title and it was wonderful to see her achieve
her goal. She had a long day in her four events but she pushed hard
all day. It was a fitting way to end her state indoor career.

“To see Sarah set two records in one day and to win a distance
medal as a sophomore is great. She is a talented, focused young
lady and didn’t back off one bit against the best runners in the
state.

“Both Erin and Sarah have been willing to pay the price to
succeed. They never make excuses, accept results and go back to
work. We are so pleased for them.

“I would like to thank coach Bob Macfarlane and coach Mark
Kelley for all their hard work. This was a group effort. I also
want to thank coach Tom Tessena and coach Scott Mealy for their
willingness to work with the girls this winter and to congratulate
our boys team on their efforts.”

The Lady Owls finished tied for third as a team with Conestoga
(33 points). West Catholic was first with 62 points and Easton was
second with 40 points. Bradford will receive a trophy for its
efforts.
