Owls defeat Keystone

KNOX – Ben Lanich poured in 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to
send Bradford to a 53-36 non-league win over Keystone (16-8) on
Wednesday night.

“Ben stepped it up tonight,” BAHS coach Dave Fuhrman noted. “We
were playing without Tommy Morris (slight concussion). We needed
guys to step up and Ben stepped up big.”

Shane Hvizdzak also contributed with 15 points and five steals
for the Owls, who finish the regular season 15-9.

“Shane played a nice game,” Fuhrman said.

The Owls led 14-11 after one quarter and built the advantage to
26-19 at intermission.

“I thought we played real good defensively,” Fuhrman emphasized.
“We held them to single digit scoring in three of the four
quarters. We played a lot of zone defense. We did a good job on
Ferringer. He is a good shooter. We kept their two best shooters –
Ferringer and Rhoads – out of the game. Keystone is a well-coached
team.”

Eric Arnett found himself in early foul trouble and spent much
of the game on the bench.

“He had to sit a lot,” Fuhrman said of Arnett.

The Owls shot 55 percent from the field (21-for-38) and
outrebounded Keystone 37-23.

“We shot well,” Fuhrman admitted. “We have been shooting the
ball much better. We have been playing better lately.”

The Owls are idle until March 4 when they play in the
championship of the District 9 Class AAA playoffs at Clarion
University against Punxsutawney or Clearfield.

“This is a good win to finish the regular season,” Fuhrman
declared. “This is the most losses we have had in a while going
into the playoffs. The losses have all been against quality teams.
We played a good schedule that has prepared us for the
playoffs.

“We will play either Punxsy or Clearfield – teams we beat twice
during the regular season. There is no guarantee we are going to do
it a third time. We are going to have a long layoff. Hopefully, we
will play our best game March 4.”
