The former Bradford Electronics Inc., building on High Street
has been sold to CBI LLC, and the company president said Thursday
he hopes to lease the space to long-term commercial tenants.
Don Cummins of Bradford -ðpresident of CBI LLC, the CBI of which
stands for Cummins Brothers Industries – said his company bought
the building for the purpose of leasing the space out to other
businesses.
Bob Cummins and Nick Cummins, both of Bradford, are the other
Cummins brothers in CBI LLC.
Don Cummins said CBI LLC bought the building last Friday and
“right now is looking to aggressively market for long-term
tenants.”
“It’s a good building,” Cummins said, “It’s in great shape. And
it’s in a (KOEZ) zone.”
Currently, space in the building is being leased to one of the
contractors working on the U.S. Route 219 highway project, Cummins
said.
“There’s still plenty of office and manufacturing space,”
however, he said; 140,000-square- feet, to be exact.
Cummins did say there are already “people interested” in the
space at the building located at 550 High St. and Owens Way, but
that he could not give that information on the record at this
time.
“Right now, we really want to tout the great location and the
shape of the building. That combined with the tax credit is a real
incentive,” Cummins said.
Bob Cummins of Cummins Construction Co., was reportedly looking
to buy the property in 2003. He said at that time he was planning
to lease the space if he bought the property.
Before that deal closed, however, environmental issues related
to non-compliance with state Department of Environmental Protection
regulations prompted Bob Cummins to halt the sale.
At that time, the property was owned by Vishay Intertechnology
Inc., and Vishay officials were working with the DEP to correct
soil and water contamination issues.
Don Cummins said Thursday the property was “in the process of
meeting Act 2 requirements” with the DEP.
“All issues have been addressed by the former owner (Vishay),
and we’re hoping … expecting full site clearance under Act 2 in the
next couple of months,” Cummins said. “The remediation of those
environmental issues factored into” the purchase of the building,
he added.
According to the Philadelphia Business Journal online, Act 2
refers collectively to a set of state laws designed to “encourage
the reuse of already developed properties that need some degree of
environmental cleanup.”
