RTS for Wednesday

SPECIAL LINK: While many of our readers undoubtedly were pulling
for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday’s Super Bowl, a group of
people in Port Allegany were on the other side of the aisle.

“The folks at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Port Allegany
had a unique reason to be interested in the Super Bowl on Sunday,”
writes the Rev. Arnold R. Bolin, interim pastor.

“Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren and his family are active
life-long members of the Evangelical Covenant Church
denomination.”

The pastor continues, “Holmgren grew up in a Covenant Church in
San Francisco. He and his wife, Nancy, met and started their
courtship at a Covenant Church Bible camp in California.”

“They have been very generous over the years to church causes,
especially the denominational school, North Park University in
Chicago. The outdoor athletic area is named The Holmgren Athletic
Complex.

“Kathy Holmgren, a nurse, and their daughter, an obstetrician,
were in Africa on a medical mission in the Republic of Congo, where
the denomination has a large medical work.

“Regardless of team loyalties, we found this connection to be of
interest.”

AND ALSO: Patricia H. Stromberg of Camp Hill, who had sent us a
note on the death of retired band director and teacher Nick
Sinibaldi, writes a post-script:

“In today’s economic and political environment, schools face
many competing priorities – and arts programs are frequently the
unfortunate target of budget reduction.

“Our experience with music education in the Bradford School
System (at least during my time there) gives full testament to its
value in developing children to their fullest potential. This
influence should be given full consideration when the tough
decisions are being made during school-budget season.”

ENIS HOTEL: Tom Frair of “Music Mountain” fills us in on the
history of what is now the Westline Inn. “It was owned by Carl and
Ruth Enis (four letters) … They served phenomenal steak dinners, as
I recall, and I seem to remember something about ‘if you could eat
the entire steak dinner, you got another steak for free.'”

REX’S TURN: Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jamie Himes Dana and her
bomb-sniffing dog Rex have certainly received a lot of attention in
all forms of media. One of our readers passed along an article
which focused on the Rex angle which appeared in a recent edition
of Pet Product News International.
