Progress from 2005 discussed at Trails meeting

Members of the Tuna Valley Trails Association reviewed the
progress they made in 2005 and elected officers for 2006.

Three trails were completed last year, association member Glenn
Melvin said at a trails meeting Tuesday night at the Bradford
Township Volunteer Fire Department fire hall.

Among them, the Marilla Springs Trail is about 3.55 miles,
starts in the Allegheny National Forest and ends at the Marilla
Bridge Trail. It cost about $176,221 to construct.

The Marilla Bridge Trail, also completed in 2005, is a mile-long
loop around the Marilla Reservoir at the end of West Corydon
Street. It cost the association $427,561 to build.

The third trail constructed last year, the Richard E. McDowell
Trail, measures 1.5 miles long, starts on Clarks Lane and ends on
Onofrio Street.

The Crook Farm Trail and the Indian Pipe Trail were both
constructed prior to 2005, Melvin said. The Crook Farm Trail
measures 1.4 miles, starts on Bolivar Drive and ends at Tuna
Crossroads. It cost $130,000 to finish. The Indian Pipe Trail is
7.4 miles long, starts at the Marilla Reservoir and ends in
Allegany State Park.

The two trail projects under way for 2006 are the 2.9-mile
Community Parks Trail, which will start at the Bradford City line
and link to the Richard E. McDowell Trail, and the five-mile South
Bradford Trail, which starts at the Zippo/Case Visitors Center and
ends in Lewis Run.

To oversee the projects in 2006, the association elected the
following officers: Rick Esch will continue to serve as president;
Linda Devlin, vice president; Jeff Andrews, treasurer; Walt
Rhinehart, secretary; Susan Schenfield, communications secretary;
and Martin Glesk, past president.

Other association members include Sara Andrews, Allan
Vanderpoel, Debbie Lunden, Rick Brocius, Dave Farrell, Tom Urban,
Glenn Melvin, John Shinaberger, Mark Luciano, Kim Benjamin, Gene
Cornelius, Robert Saunders, Fred Fesenmeyer and Kurt Laemmer.

The association members discussed the upcoming fifth annual
Kinzua Outdoor Travel Show set for Feb. 24 and 25 at the Bradford
Mall in Foster Brook. Admission to the show, which includes
exhibitors, demonstrations, wildlife presentations, educational
seminars, refreshments and more, is free.

Lastly, the group talked about their new Web site, which will be
up and running soon, they said.

The next regular meeting of the Tuna Valley Trails Association
is set for 7 p.m. March 7 in the Kubiak Building on Kennedy
Street.
