MISS AMERICA: Ron Paterson, another
transplanted Bradfordian, drops us an e-line about a feature story
we carried to coincide with this year’s Miss America pageant.

He writes, “”I read the Era online every day. I was really
surprised to read the article headlined ‘First Miss America from
Potter County,’ in the Jan. 23 edition.””[neWLine]
“”My wife and I retired to Rehoboth Beach, Del., in
1997. (By the way, I am a 1958 Bradford High grad and my wife,
Peggy [Everly] Paterson graduated from Bradford High in
1960.)

“”Anyhow, the article about the Miss America pageant having its
humble beginnings here in Rehoboth Beach was very interesting. I
thought it would be interesting to point out to you that not only
did the pageant move to Las Vegas this year, but it also moved in
Delaware this year.[neWLine]
“”For decades, the Miss Delaware events had been held in
Rehoboth Beach in preparation for the Miss America
pageant.[neWLine]
“”This year, the event was moved to the Dover Downs Casino in
Dover, Del.[neWLine]
“”Isn’t it interesting that nationally and here in our state the
event officials have chosen to hold the event with a gambling
backdrop?[neWLine]
“”Anyhow, thanks for the publicity for our City.[neWLine]
“”As I am a newly elected City Commissioner, I would be remiss
if I did not invite everyone to visit our beautiful resort. A
multi-million dollar beach replenishment project was completed last
summer.[neWLine]
“”By June this summer we will have completed a four-year
many million dollar project to completely re-do the entire downtown
business area. Enjoy the no sales tax shopping in Delaware and
relax on our beaches at the same time. Come see us.””

REX NOTE: Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jamie Himes Dana
and her bomb-sniffing dog Rex have certainly received a lot of
attention including, as we saw last week, an appearance at
President Bush’s State of the Union address.

One of our readers has passed along perhaps a more mundane
reference, in the recent edition of Pet Product News International.
The article recounts Rex and Jamie’s now-familiar story about her
near-fatal injuries in Iraq and her battle to win permanent custody
of this loyal dog.[neWLine]

TODAY’S QUOTE: “”People that read tabloids deserve to be
lied to,”” said comedian Jerry Seinfeld, 1997, according to our
Freedom Forum calendar.
