Pitt men rally for AMCC triumph

ALTOONA – Pitt-Bradford rallied from a seven-point deficit to
pull out a 56-53 AMCC triumph over Penn State Altoona in men’s
basketball action Friday.

With 34 seconds on the clock and the Panthers down by one, Shawn
Spindler stole the ball and fed it to Rob Copley. Copley was fouled
but made both free throws for a 54-53 UPB edge.

The Lions came up empty on their next possession and the
visitors snatched the rebound.

Ryan Race was fouled and buried both freebies with nine seconds
left to seal the win.

“We were fortunate,” admitted Andy Moore, UPB coach. “We didn’t
play well but we made some plays at the end to get a win.

“Tonight the ball bounced our way. We’ve had six games where
we’ve lost by four points or less, so it was good to have one go
our way, especially in a conference game on the road.”

Race finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds, Copley
also netted 18 and Spindler wound up with 12.

“Shawn Spindler played exceptionally well off the bench,” Moore
emphasized. “He shot it well and scored 12 big points off the bench
for us.”

The Panthers, now 9-11 overall and 6-7 in AMCC action, are back
in action today at Mount Aloysius.
