ST. MARYS – The Owls cured Dave Fuhrman’s fever.
Bradford High rallied from a four-point fourth-quarter deficit
to defeat St. Marys 60-54 in a District 9 League game Tuesday
night, sweeping the season series.
The Owls dominated the boards, outrebounding the Dutch 41-24.
Eric Arnett and Ben Lanich had 10 rebounds each, while Tommy Morris
had eight rebounds and eight assists.
“We started off good,” BAHS coach Dave Fuhrman said.
But by the third quarter “we looked very lethargic,” he
said.
The Owls trailed 43-39 going into the fourth quarter, but
outscored the hosts 21-11 to earn the victory.
“We were not playing with much energy and enthusiasm in the
third quarter,” Fuhrman said. “We extended the floor and that got
us going.”
Morris had nine of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and Shane
Hvizdzak had eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.
“Our big guys – Arnett, Morris and Hvizdzak – really played well
when the game was on the line,” Fuhrman maintained. “We made our
free throws in the fourth quarter, hitting 10-of-11, which was big.
We hit some big shots and played well in the fourth quarter.”
Bradford jumped to a 17-10 first-quarter lead, but the Dutch
outscored BAHS 21-15 in the second period to cut the deficit to
32-31 at the intermission.
Bradford is playing four games in five days this week after
playing three games last week.
“This is a big week for us,” Furhman emphasized.
The Owls (11-8) are at Corry today.
“We hope to finish strong and go into the playoffs on a good
note,” he said. “That’s the goal right now.”
