Smethport man to stand trial on harrassment charges

SMETHPORT – A Smethport man is scheduled to stand trial in
McKean County Court in April on charges alleging that he harassed
his neighbors on Riley Hollow Road in 2004.

Joel Mark Johnson, 45, of 392 Riley Hollow Road, is charged with
two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of harassment from
incidents Oct. 9 through Nov. 18, 2004.

According to court records, Johnson “routinely makes
unreasonable noise during the early morning hours” including
“banging a Dumpster lid, running a chain saw, banging on a pipe or
metal object.”

Johnson is also accused of “holding a chainsaw above his head
while shaking it and revving it numerous times while staring at the
victim,” who is listed as Michelle Falatic, the records read.

The charges were filed by Kane-based state police. Other victims
are listed as people in residences along Riley Hollow Road.

Johnson is represented by West Chester attorney Sam Stretton.
The case is scheduled for jury trial beginning at 8:30 a.m. April
17. Four days have been set aside for the trial.

Johnson has been convicted of harassment charges in the
past.

According to court records filed at the McKean County Clerk of
Courts office, Johnson was charged in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1993
with making harassing telephone calls to various women. The calls
included lewd and suggestive comments, the records read.

Johnson had pleaded guilty to offenses each year that he was
charged. He ultimately served time in McKean County Jail and
several years on probation for the charges.
