Panthers fall to Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – An injury-plagued Pitt-Bradford men’s
basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss with a 93-67
setback to Lake Erie in an AMCC game Saturday.

“We’ve kind of lost our way,” UPB coach Andy Moore lamented.
“Every team has injuries, but ours came at the worst possible
time.”

Moore was referring to the fact that UPB’s leading scorer and
former Bradford (Pa.) High standout Ryan Race (with an average of
24 ppg) didn’t play Saturday, and that Justin Elmore of Olean,
N.Y., will be out for the remainder of the season.

“Race has had problems with both of his ankles,” Moore said. “He
could have played today, but we opted to rest him and he should be
fine for the rest of the season.

“Justin broke his jaw and is gone for the year. He had been
coming in off the bench for 10 to 12 minutes and giving us a good
lift.”

Against Lake Erie, Dan Thomas had 20 points and Rob Copley added
16.

“We were only down 34-30 at the half, but we got down by 12
three minutes into the second half and we just sort of hung our
heads,” admitted Moore. “We had real problems defensively. I can’t
remember one of my teams ever giving up 59 points in a half.”

UPB (6-9, 3-5) hosts Medaille College on Tuesday.
