Taiasha Brown scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as
Pitt-Bradford registered a 62-46 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference victory over Hilbert College at the Sport & Fitness
Center on Tuesday.
Brown, who is a 5-11 sophomore forward from Coudersport,
connected on 9-of-10 from the free throw line as the Lady Panthers
were 25-for-30 from the charity stripe.
“Tai (Brown) is playing with consistency,” said Dalyann Fuller,
Pitt-Bradford head coach. “She is getting her points, and knows her
job is to get rebounds and she is doing that well.”
The Lady Panthers used an 11-0 run to transform a 4-2 deficit
into a 13-4 lead with 14:31 left in the first half.
A traditional three-point play by Brown gave the hosts a 24-10
bulge with 9:46 showing, but the Lady Hawks tallied 10 straight
points for a 24-20 disparity at the 6:18 juncture.
“We took a leave of absence,” Fuller admitted. “We stopped
playing defense and we weren’t taking good shots.”
The Pitt-Bradford lead was 29-28 with 1:58 left when the Lady
Panthers scored the last eight points of the half for a 37-28
advantage at the intermission.
A bucket by Autumn Lee-Jeffries cut the margin to 37-32 with
18:13 remaining, but the Lady Panthers steadily pulled away and
enjoyed a pair of 21-point leads in the second half.
“We settled down and played harder man-to-man defense,” Fuller
recalled. “We slowed down and ran our offense well.”
Freshman Katie Moore of Warren added 12 points and four steals
for Pitt-Bradford. Jeffries finished with 16 points, while Amanda
McHale of Bradford contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for
Hilbert (3-9, 2-4).
The Lady Panthers (5-8, 3-3) travel to La Roche College on
Friday (6 p.m.) and then to Lake Erie College on Saturday (2
p.m.).
