Smethport teenager seriously injured in one-vehicle crash Sunday on Route 770

KANE – A Smethport teenager was seriously injured in a
one-vehicle accident at 1:45 p.m. Sunday on Route 770 near Route
646 in Keating Township.

According to Kane-based state police, a car driven by Sarah
Danielle Gee, 18, of Smethport, was westbound on Route 770 near the
Village of Aiken when it hit an icy patch in the road and began to
slide.

Police said the Gee car then crossed into the eastbound lane and
left the road, hitting a tree and then flipping over and landing on
the passenger’s side.

Gee was taken by emergency medical helicopter to Hamot Medical
Center in Erie, where a patient information representative said
Sunday night Gee was not listed in the hospital’s computer
registration system. A representative in the emergency room said
she “had no information on that patient (Gee).”

Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department First Assistant Fire
Chief Rick Brocius said Sunday that upon arrival, Gee was still
trapped in the vehicle. He and his crew had to use “rescue tools”
-ðthe Jaws of Life -ðto extricate Gee.

Brocius said it took about 17 minutes for extrication, and units
were on scene another 45 minutes to an hour. As far as he knew, he
said, Gee was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the
crash.

The Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department responded with
two trucks and 15 firemen. The Bradford City Fire Department’s
paramedic ambulance responded and transported the driver to a
landing zone in Aiken for transport by emergency helicopter.

Kane-based state police were assisted at the scene by the
Bradford Township Police and fire police from the Bradford Township
and Hilltop Volunteer fire departments.

There was no further information available.
