Bradford youngsters will be treated to a free 10-week-long film
festival at the Bradford Main Street Moviehouse, starting on Jan.
21 and running every Saturday through March 25.
This Free Family Film Fest, which organizers hope to make an
annual event, will lead off at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 with “The Adventures
of Elmo in Grouchland.”
Along with free admittance, youngsters will receive free candy
and a chance to win a new bicycle.
James Guelfi, who headed the “Light up the Marquee” committee
which raised the funds to reopen the Moviehouse, said, “Our film
fest committee, Dipson Theaters, and DBRC want Bradford area kids
and their families to build happy memories, and a mindset for
frequent movie going in a carefree hometown environment – like the
generations before them that passed through these same theater
doors.”
“The Free Family Film Fest is our reminder to the Bradford area
people to recognize and understand that good films are intense
entertainers, powerful teachers and an American tradition, an art
form to be respected and shared,” he added.”
Terri Smith, a member of the Free Family Film Fest committee,
added, “As a kid, my social and working life was very much
connected to this Bradford movie theater. It was a wholesome,
enriching and fun influence on my life, and I’d like to see
children and their families and friends preserve this local
pasttime and continue the tradition of building wonderful hometown
memories.”
The bicycle, donated by Just Riding Along in Bradford, will be
raffled on the day of the last show. The more shows attended, the
more chances to win. The winner does not need to be present to
win.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
