Arnett keys Owls past Bisons

CLEARFIELD – Eric Arnett posted a double-double of 16 points and
11 boards to power Bradford to a 63-40 win over Clearfield in a
District 9 League boys basketball game Friday.

“Arnett played well inside,” commented Owls coach Dave
Fuhrman.

The Owls outrebounded the Bisons 41-16. Twenty-four of the Owls’
rebounds were of the offensive variety – a department that has
plagued the Owls all season.

“This was our best rebounding game of the year,” Fuhrman
declared.

Shane Hvizdzak picked up 15 points and grabbed seven steals,
while sophomore Ben Lanich had nine tallies and 13 rebounds .

“Hvizdzak played very well defensively,” Fuhrman noted.

“Ben Lanich is doing great. He has had four or five
double-doubles this season.”

The Owls collected only five of their 63 points at the free
throw line, going 5-for-10.

“They (Clearfield) played a solid zone defense. This was our
best zone offense we have ran in a while,” Fuhrman observed.

Coming off the bench, Doug Rose added six assists.

“We shared the ball really well,” Fuhrman stated. “We had 18
assists on 26 baskets. We moved the ball well and made shots from
all over.

“Our bench – Tommy Taylor, Rose, Ben Walter and Dan Vecellio –
is really starting to come around,” Fuhrman added. “Our depth
really showed.”

Leading Clearfield, 4-7 overall and 1-3 in District 9, were
James Zimmerman (11 points) and John Lhota (10 points).

Clearfield only managed to score 12 points in the second
half.

“In the first half our defense was shaky,” Fuhrman said. “We
turned it around in the second half by really challenging their
shots.”

Bradford improves to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in District 9 play.

The Owls return to action next Friday hosting DuBois, while the
JV’s are at Olean at 1:30 p.m. today.
