JAN. 2, 1936: We pass along a note about Bradford’s New Year’s
baby some 70 years ago.
Kay Henry writes, “My brother, James Rich, was Bradford’s 1936
New Years Baby born on Jan. 2.ðHe is son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic
Rich and he now resides in Schenectady, N.Y.”
“He received many gifts, some of which he still has. He was a
graduate of the 1954 Bradford High class and worked his high school
years for Dick Cardamon at the Bradford Club Garage.”
We can’t help but wonder what gifts he kept all these years.
ANOTHER LINK: Bill Moore of Bradford drops a line: “You may have
been contacted about this but, in case you haven’t, you may want to
let Bradford sports fans who go back to the 1940s know that they
lost another link to their past when Danny Carnevale passed away
12/29/05 in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., at age 87.”
“He was a Buffalo legend as an outstanding minor league baseball
player, manager and front office executive at all levels from Class
D to AAA and as a major league scout until he was 83.
“But he is remembered here as the young player-manager who led
Bradford to the pennant and playoff championship of the PONY League
in 1949. That was probably the best pro baseball summer ever in our
town with players like Carnevale, Spangler, Derry, Saverine,
Carlini, Schmidt and Roy Face, who went on to start with the
Pittsburgh Pirates as a relief pitcher.”
BRADFORD, FLA.: Sally Ishman gives us a heads up about
Bradford’s “Florida reunion” which will be held on Feb. 12.
Sally tells us she’ll be sending out letters about the reunion,
but if you’re interested in details contact her at –

LOCAL ANGLE: Diane Arnett of Bradford reports a local connection
(sort of) in the movie “Fun with Dick and Jane” which she saw over
the holidays.
The film, actually a remake starring Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni,
is a “cute show about aðcouple who end up turning to crime when he
loses his big job at ‘Globodyne’ because the owner skims the money
out of the corporation and the place goes bust,” Diane tells
us.
“At the start of the credits at the end of the movie, there is a
list of ‘thanks’ to various ‘bad guy’ corporations … including John
Rigas, Tim Rigas and Adelphia!”
