Lady Owls advance to title game

PORT ALLEGANY – Bradford and Port Allegany will play for the
championship of the Port Allegany Tournament today.

On Monday, the Lady Owls (3-6) snapped a six-game losing skid
with an 84-42 win over Smethport, while the Lady Gators (9-0) beat
Austin 41-30 in first-round games.

Bradford erupted for 29 first-quarter points en route to its
win. Whitney Cline had 17 points, Shelly Fuhrman 15 and Nikki
Siffrinn and Liz Keller 12 each for the Lady Owls.

“We shot very well (36-of-61),” Bradford coach Doug Lloyd
pointed out. “We came out on fire. Everybody played well. It was a
night where we couldn’t miss. Smethport played hard.”

Cline finished with a double-double as she pulled down 10
rebounds to go with her 17 points. Siffrinn had seven assists and
Keller recorded four steals.

“It was a great team effort,” Lloyd added. “It’s good to have a
game like that. We have to play just as hard Tuesday. I’m hoping
this gives us a little momentum going into the second half of the
season.”

Kaitlyn Tanner (11 points), Ellen Scherer (10) and Justine
Stuckey (10) led Port Allegany past Austin.

“Kaitlyn and Justine did a nice job inside drawing fouls and
taking pressure off our guard play,” Port coach Kristina Francis
said. “We have to minimize the number of turnovers for Tuesday’s
game.”

Tanner finished with seven rebounds and Pam Larson had five
assists.

The championship game will start at 4:30 p.m. The consolation
contest gets under way at 3 p.m.
