BROOKVILLE – Bradford High jumped out to a 47-16 halftime lead
en route to a 74-40 win over Brookville in a District 9 League
basketball game Tuesday night.
Ben Lanich had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds for
the Owls (4-4), who have won three straight. Eric Arnett and Tommy
Morris had 15 points each for the winners.
“I was pleased with the way we played,” Bradford coach Dave
Fuhrman said. “We shot it well and forced a lot of turnovers. Our
pressure defense forced 27 turnovers.
“We shared the ball well and had good balanced scoring with
Morris, Arnett and Lanich in double figures. Everybody played well.
We came out of the gate strong.”
Bradford’s three straight wins have come on the road
(Punxsutawney, Meadville, Brookville).
“Brookville was coming off a big win against Clearfield,”
Fuhrman noted. “We are starting to play better. The guys are
starting to feel more comfortable. I hope we keep improving.
“We moved the ball well. We made some nice passes. We looked for
each other and had a good mix of inside scoring and perimeter
scoring. I thought we played pretty good defense. Our defense seems
to be coming around.”
The Owls shot 45 percent from the field (27-of-60), while
Brookville hit 35 percent from the floor (18-for-51).
Bradford outrebounded the hosts 35-29.
Morris finished with five assists and five steals, while Shane
Hvizdzak had four assists and four steals.
“Our guards created a lot of turnovers and got a lot of easy
baskets off the turnovers,” Fuhrman declared.
The Owls are idle until Dec. 27 when they play Pine Valley,
N.Y., in the first round of the IAABO Tournament at 6 p.m. at the
Reilly Center on the campus of St. Bonaventure University. Olean
High and Olean Walsh will play the other first-round contest at
7:45 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be Dec.
29.
“We are back at the .500 mark after a 1-4 start,” Fuhrman added.
“We had a difficult month. We are going to take Wednesday off and
then get ready for the IAABO Tournament.”
