Those interested in being deemed an “official ELF” by helping to
make someone’s Christmas a little brighter this year are welcome to
take a tag from one of many trees around Bradford with someone’s
name on it highlighting possible gift ideas.
The ELF (Era’s Less Fortunate) Fund, co-sponsored by The
Salvation Army and The Bradford Era, provides gifts to needy
children and senior citizens.
ELF tags specify what the recipient would like to have as a
“special” toy, article of clothing or gift while listing their
needs in sizes and interests.
Green tags signify a child who needs or wants a particular
article of clothing; red tags signify an interest in a particular
toy; and gray tags signify the gift will be for a senior.
ELF Fund officials recommend spending no more than $40 per
child, and spending equal amounts when buying for families.
Spending the same amount guards against hard feelings between
siblings.
Officials also suggest keeping in mind the age of the child to
buy age-appropriate toys.
The deadline to turn in gifts, according to the tags, is Dec. 8.
Those wishing to wrap the gifts can do so, securing the tag to the
outside of the present and turning them in at The Salvation Army,
21 Kennedy St. Even if gifts are not wrapped, they may be turned in
along with the tag, to the Kennedy Street location.
Officials add that unwrapped gifts, along with the tags, can be
turned in to the Bradford Senior Activity Center on Campus Drive to
be wrapped.
