In a brief meeting of the Bradford City Parking Authority held
Monday, the three members of the board approved a resolution to
extend the board’s existence for five more decades.
“As with most authorities, the terms are all starting to expire
and are finding it necessary to renew,” Chairman Chris Hauser
explained.
The resolution before the board read that the authority was
created on Dec. 27, 1955, under the Municipal Authorities Act. The
original term was for 50 years.
“We’re extending our term for another 50 years,” Hauser said.
The other board members present, Mark Austin and James Guelfi, read
over the resolution and it was unanimously approved.
Guelfi asked City Clerk John Peterson, who keeps minutes for the
authority, what he needs to do about the impending expiration of
his term on the board. His term expires Jan. 1, 2006.
“Do I have to renew or is it automatic?” he asked.
Hauser explained it is a mayoral appointment for a term of five
years.
“If you’d like to renew your term, I’ll express it to the
mayor,” Peterson said. Guelfi said he would. Peterson said he would
notify Mayor Michele Corignani of Guelfi’s intent to seek another
term.
The board also discussed actions taken on city parking lots over
the past summer. Peterson said a city lot on Kennedy Street that
had been dirt was paved and a lot on Chestnut Street was resurfaced
for a total cost of $22,847.
Paving of a lot on Pine Street was taken out of the project
because of the possibility of development in that area, Peterson
said.
“We’ll look at the possible resurfacing of the East Bradford lot
for 2006,” he added.
People who lease spaces in that lot will pay more, he said,
explaining they have already been notified the fee will go up from
$15 to $20 next year.
There is currently one vacant seat on the Parking Authority.
Member Fred Blackburn was not present at Monday’s meeting.
