LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. – Incumbent Olean Mayor William Quinlan has
been defeated in his bid for re-election. Republican challenger
David Carucci will take over his seat.
According to unofficial results tabulated by the Cattaraugus
County Elections Department, Quinlan garnered 1,093 votes, while
Carucci – the top vote-getter – received 1,578 tallies.
Democratic Ward 2 Alderwoman Joyce Melfi came in second place
with 1,239 results, according to unofficial calculations;
Conservative candidate Glenn VanDixon garnered 433 votes and
Independent candidate Scott Paoletto, 78.
Meanwhile, in the race for Cattaraugus County District Attorney,
incumbent Edward Sharkey won re-election by a count of 9,328 to
8,288 over challenger and former law partner Mark Williams,
according to unofficial tabulations.
Both the races for mayor and district attorney were contentious
throughout the election season.
