Owners of Papa Nick’s try to piece together their lives

A family is trying to piece their lives back together after a
Saturday fire destroyed not only their home but their business.

Bill and Linda Nicolazzo, their two children and dog lived on
the second floor of Papa Nick’s Restaurant at the corner of Chase
and Bayard streets in Kane. They have a teenage son, Frank, and a
daughter, Anjanette, who is a student at the University of
Pittsburgh at Bradford. She lives on campus but missed classes on
Monday due to the fire.

Everyone in the family was able to make it out of the building
before the fire destroyed it. The family is currently living with
Ann Jerman in Carlson Heights, Kane.

“We haven’t thought about it,” Linda Nicolazzo said Monday about
rebuilding Papa Nick’s Restaurant.

She said they’re just trying to make sense of everything right
now. She also said the Red Cross had called them and offered to
help.

“It’s really overwhelming,” she said. “We don’t need any more
clothes and stuff. They offered to help when we relocate and
everything. Everybody’s so wonderful.”

The restaurant was destroyed in the 4:30 a.m. a fire. The
building is owned by the Nicolazzos.

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze.
According to Kane Volunteer Fire Chief Jim Huckabone, about 100
firefighters responded from 14 other departments rolled to the
scene.

Huckabone said firefighters remained on scene until 6 p.m.

A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was called in to
investigate the scene of the fire, but no information on the cause
of the fire was available Monday.

What remained of the building was demolished with a backhoe,
according to Huckabone. Huckabone confirmed again Monday the cause
of the fire is going to remain undetermined since the building was
a total loss.

“I doubt it, but you never know,” Huckabone said Monday about
discerning the cause of the fire.

Huckabone said there was smoke and water damage to the
neighboring building that was attached to Papa Nick’s by a walkway.
Huckabone said the attached building was the old Kentucky Fried
Chicken hall and believed the Nicolazzo’s owned that building as
well.
