DUKE CENTER – Otto-Eldred coach Kerry Snow said that Coudersport
is “bigger, faster and stronger than anybody in this league (AML)
and I don’t think I’m surprising anybody by saying that.”
He’s not.
Coudersport continued it’s domination of the AML with a 47-6
rout of Otto-Eldred on the Terrors’ home field Friday night.
As the lone bright spot for the Terrors, sophomore quarterback
Travis Bair surpassed 1,000 yards passing on the season. He
finished the game 7-for-26 with 90 yards and one touchdown.
“We were just totally outclassed,” Snow admitted. “This is the
best Coudersport team I’ve seen in the four years I’ve been
coaching over here (at Otto-Eldred). I don’t think there’s much
doubt about that. They’re solid all the way across the board.”
The Falcons were able to avoid a letdown on the road by coming
out and scoring 40 first-half points.
Chris Cavallari got things going with a 38-yard romp in the
first period. The PAT was no good and Coudersport had a 6-0
edge.
David Babcock, the Falcons’ 1,000-yard rusher, found paydirt
from 13 yards out and Caleb Morris booted the extra point for a
13-0 score.
Kirk Duffee recovered a Terror fumble at the O-E 27 and returned
it for a touchdown, giving the visitors a 20-0 bulge after one.
The second quarter saw Cavallari come through with another
touchdown, this time from 17 yards out. Morris’ kick split the
uprights and it was 27-0.
Then it was Cavallari again as he picked off a Terror aerial and
returned it 29 yards for six points. Morris’ kick was again true to
set the score at 34-0.
Sam Decker closed out Coudersport’s first-half rampage with a
four-yard rumble and it was 40-0.
Otto’s Bair connected with Cory Brown on a 27-yard strike as the
Terrors avoided the first-half skunking.
The second half scoring was relatively tame, with Babcock
ripping off a 70-yard score. Morris added yet another kick for the
47-6 final.
Babcock finished the night with 144 yards and two touchdowns on
10 touches, while Cavallari burst on the scene with two rushes for
55 yards and three scores.
Leading the Falcons defensively Sam Decker made five tackles,
picked off one pass and deflected two; Cavallari racked up four
tackles (one for loss) one interception and one deflection; Drew
Levavasseur earned five stops, one forced fumble and two
deflections; and Duffee was good for six tackles to complement his
fumble recovery for the touchdown.
“We were glad the kids came out playing well from the start,”
said Coudy coach Paul Simcoe. “They did a good job on the pass
defense, Otto throws the ball pretty well and they were only able
to complete 5 of 26 attempts. We had three picks so our pass
coverage was good and we did what we had to do on offense.”
Otto-Eldred, 2-6, is at Brockway next Friday.
Coudersport will await the outcome of today’s Curwensville-Elk
County Catholic contest, which will determine the Falcons’ opponent
for Oct. 29’s AML championship game.
