COOPERS LAKE – Jared Feura ran to a 16th place finish to lead
Bradford High to a ninth-place showing at the Tri-State Coaches
Cross Country Meet on Thursday.
Feura ran the 3.1-mile course in 16:52 to earn a medal.
The Owls had 278 points in the 54-team field. North Allegheny
High School was first with 123 points. Baldwin High was fifth with
244 points.
Also leading the Owls were Steve Kirkland (41st, 17:23), Colton
Langianese (65th, 17:41), Ben Moran (77th, 17:51), Shroy Mukerjee
(79th, 17:51), Anthony Cavallaro (82nd, 17:52), Rich Bartlebaugh
(95th, 18:02), Mike Foerstner (100th, 18:03), Patrick Perschke
(279th, 19:26) and John Karrasch (290th, 19:34).
There were 445 runners in the race.
“This was one of the best performances we have ever had in a big
meet,” Bradford coach Tom Tessena said. “Jared Feura ran especially
well – for him to get a medal was pretty special.
“This was a fantastic meet. Our guys did exceptionally well.
Improving the most were Mukerjee and Bartlebaugh. This puts us in
good shape going into districts (Oct. 29 at Ridgway). I’m pleased
with how everyone did. To beat schools like Butler and Mount
Lebanon is pretty exciting.”
Bradford’s top seven runners averaged 17:31 with only one minute
separating them.
“That’s really a good time spread,” Tessena added. “That’s
fantastic in this kind of a race.”
On a related note, due to information supplied to The Era, the
result of the middle school race was incorrectly reported in
Wednesday’s paper. Correctly, Matthew White finished in first place
and Michael White took second.
In the girls’ race Thursday, the Lady Owls were 15th out of 50
teams. Bradford had 454 points. Latrobe won the race with 79
points. There were 398 runners.
“We ran against some really big schools,” Bradford coach Bob
Macfarlane said. “I feel our girls did an exceptional job. Our
young girls are really coming together this season.”
Medaling for Bradford was Sarah Lonzi who was fifth overall on
the 3.1-mile course in a time of 19:11.
Paige Ambrose (97th, 21:29), Renee Cavallaro (100th, 21:30), Sam
Cota-Robles (111th, 21:43), Erica Pascarella (141st, 22:08), Liz
Keller (142nd, 22:11), Kara Holsinger (201st, 23:10), Megan Foster
(283rd, 24:19), Kevryn Boser (299th, 24:45) and Olivia Goble
(324th, 25:13) also ran for Bradford.
“I’m extremely proud of how the girls handled this meet,”
Macfarlane commented. “They didn’t back down from anybody. A lot of
them had their best times. By far this is the best invitational
that we compete in.”
Bradford’s second through sixth runners were only 42 seconds
apart.
The Lady Owls will be idle until Oct. 29 when they compete in
the District 9 Class AAA championships in Ridgway.
