Coudy stays perfect, tops Ridgway

David Babcock averaged 23 yards per carry – eclipsing the
1,000-yard mark for the season – and Coudersport was a model of
efficiency as the unbeaten Falcons turned back Ridgway 41-6 in AML
gridiron action Friday.

Coudersport outgained Ridgway by 311 total yards, despite
executing 20 fewer offensive plays (Coudy 37, Ridgway 57), and
Babcock piled up 184 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just eight
touches.

Babcock’s 184 yard-performance vaulted him over the 1,000-yard
mark, despite having only played in 5 1/2 games this season.

“He sat out the Sheffield game and the second half of the Port
Allegany game,” emphasized Coudy coach Paul Simcoe. “We’ve got him
at 1,016 yards for the season.”

Also for Coudersport, Sam Decker earned 58 yards and a touchdown
on eight carries to complement his three catches for 64 yards and a
score, while quarterback Brian Wetzel completed all five of his
pass attempts for 119 yards and one TD.

Decker got the Falcons’ potent offense rolling with a 10-yard
touchdown catch from Wetzel in the first quarter. Caleb Morris
converted the PAT for a7-0 score.

Then Babcock found paydirt on a 47-yard dash and Morris’ kick
was true once again.

Josh Corey closed out the first-quarter scoring with a one-yard
plunge and Morris added the point-after.

The second quarter saw Decker cap off a two-play, 34-yard drive
with a one-yard score. The kick failed.

David Babcock’s 69-yard romp and the ensuing Morris PAT made it
34-0 as the two teams headed into the lockerrooms.

Coudy’s final score came in the third on a seven-yard scamper by
Mike Cole that finished off a 9-play, 68-yard drive. Morris then
split the uprights once again.

Nate Williamson accounted for Ridgway’s only score, a one-yard
dive in the fourth quarter. The PAT attempt was no good.

Leading the Falcons’ defensive charge were Koleman Erway with
seven tackles and Drew Levavasseur, Brandon Smith and Andy Chisholm
with six stops each.

“The kids came out and played well right from the start,” Simcoe
remarked. “We’re trying to keep things sharp and keep people
healthy coming down the stretch.

“We’ve clinched the AML North and we’ve already clinched a spot
in District 9 (Class A). We’re just trying to get a little better
each week to see what we can do in the playoffs.”

The Falcons (7-0) invade Duke Center for a tilt with Otto-Eldred
next Friday.
