ST. MARYS – Lindsay Sherman found the back of the net twice as
Bradford rolled over St. Marys 4-2 in high school soccer action
Thursday.
“She (Sherman) is a driven player and will do anything she can
to help the team win,” praised BHS coach Tony Doriguzzi.
BHS first score came with 13 minutes left in the first half on a
penalty kick from Whitney Cline.
Midway through the first, St Mary’s got on the board with a
score from Elena Reed.
The Lady Owls answered when Libby Cavagnaro booted a corner kick
from Chelsea Rinfrette with six minutes remaining.
“Coach Joe (Doriguzzi) made some tactical suggestions and so we
moved some people around a little bit,” Doriguzzi proclaimed.
“It paid off because Libby Cavagnaro wasn’t even in her new spot
for 30 seconds when she scored on a brilliant corner kick from
Chelsea Rinfrette. Libby had another nice game tonight.”
In the second half, the Lady Dutch tied the game with a goal
from Megan Wolfe.
With nine minutes left, Sherman knocked in her first goal on a
pass from Dana Carrico.
Sherman sent her last score into the goal with just 23 seconds
remaining. Cavagnaro was credited with the assist.
“Lindsay Sherman has been recovering from an injury so it was
nice to see her back on track tonight scoring two nice goals,”
admitted Doriguzzi.
Hope Ruffner was in goal for the Lady Owls and was credited with
12 saves.
“I told the girls that we needed plenty of shots on goal in
order to win this match and they came up with 16 shots and four
goals,” Doriguzzi noted.
Emily Hathorn had 12 saves in goal for the Lady Dutch.
“Midfielders, Steph Lyons and Katie White went all out for us
tonight. They were making nice plays on the ball up and down the
field. Their intensity helped us generate goal scoring
opportunities,” Doriguzzi praised.
“Freshman Leah Anderson also did a nice job of coming off the
bench for midfield play. She has been a big asset to us this year,”
Doriguzzi said.
“Hopefully this gives us some momentum going into our final two
regular season games.”
The Lady Owls are now 9-7-1.
In JV action, Bradford lost 1-0.
Nichole Shine was in goal for BHS and had two saves.
The Lady Owls will be back in action at Redbank Valley on
Saturday.
