Lindsay Sherman scored two goals including the game-winner in
the second overtime to lift Bradford to a 2-1 win over Warren in
high school soccer Wednesday.
Kayla Murphey assisted on Sherman’s game-winner.
Libby Cavagnaro was credited with the assist on Sherman’s first
goal.
“Lindsay Sherman was fouled pretty hard in the second half and
was shaken up so she sat out for a while. She came right back in
for the second overtime and scored right away on a beautiful ball
from Murphey,” noted Bradford coach Tony Doriguzzi.
“Not only did Lindsay score twice, but she was all over the ball
in our attacking third. We were all impressed with her
tonight.”
Hope Ruffner was in goal for the Lady Owls (8-4), making 12
saves.
“With all the injuries and illnesses this team has right now,
everyone knew that they had to step it up tonight in order to
compete with Warren,” stated Doriguzzi. “Chelsea Rinfrette, Britani
VanScoter and Katie Zapel took on starting roles and really gave
everything they had.
“We moved Whitney Cline around a little as well and she turned
in another solid performance,” Doriguzzi praised. “Seeing the girls
kick it up a notch like they did today makes me love my job even
more.”
Scoring for Warren was Christa Yaegle (unassisted).
In goal for the Lady Dragons was Sara Guiffre (10 saves).
Bradford’s JV squad (3-6-1) lost to Warren 3-0.
Nichole Shine was in goal with seven saves.
