ECC’s Smith leads D-9 boys golf tourney

Kevin Smith was the overall leader after the opening round of
the District 9 boys golf tournament Wednesday at the Pennhills
Club.

Smith of Elk Catholic fired a 73 over 18 holes.

The final round will get under way at 10 a.m. Saturday at the
Pennhills Club.

Challenging Smith were Dustin Mullens of Cameron County (74),
Clayton Shadeck of Clearfield (75), Chase Zamperini of Redbank
Valley (77), C.G. Mercatoris of Brookville (77), Chris Sabolcik of
Port Allegany (78), Derek Reed of Punxsutawney (78), Paul Baker of
Cameron County (78), Logan McCracken of Karns City (79), Sean Foust
of A-C Valley (79), Aaron Stenta of Ridgway (81), Dusty Fry of
Cranberry (81), Lance Howell of Curwensville (81) and Michael Fritz
of Brookville (81).

Winning the team title was Brookville with 240 points. The team
was made up of Alex Nichman, Fritz and Mercatoris.

The top four finishers from Saturday’s tournament will advance
to York for the PIAA championships Oct. 24-25.
