Bosers capture walleye tournament title

Glenn and Mathew Boser brought in a two-day total of 14.48
pounds to win the overall title in the third annual two-day Kinzua
Outdoors Charity Walleye Championship on Saturday and Sunday on the
Kinzua Reservoir.

“The Kinzua Outdoors tournaments are awesome,” commented the
Bosers. “They are family-oriented.”

Winning the championship was just one of the Bosers many
successes throughout the Kinzua Outdoors Walleye Fishing
Series.

Boser and Boser achieved overall team of the year, guardian and
youth of the year and qualified for the Cabela’s National Team
Walleye Championship. Mathew Boser is the youngest person to ever
qualify for the Cabela’s Team National Championship at only six
years of age.

“We want to thank Kinzua Outdoors for the opportunity to go to
the Cabela’s National Championship,” the Bosers said.

Glenn noted, “I have had some great partners in the past year
(Cody Frantz and Dan Williams), but qualifying for the National
Team Walleye Championship with my son is one of the most special
experiences of my life.”

“The local Kinzua anglers are some of the best fishermen in the
country,” stated the Bosers. “If you have the ability to catch
walleyes consistently on the Kinzua Reservoir you have achieved an
amazing accomplishemt.”

The top five teams were honored each day of the tournament. The
first day of the tournament Boser and Boser took first place with
8.32 pounds.

“The key to our success is we work really hard and we fish just
as hard as our competitors do, ” said Boser and Boser. “Because of
lower water conditions the fish were located on the river edges and
that’s what we concentrated on.”

Finishers from second to fifth place were Mick and Cody Frantz
(6.31 pounds and runner-up team of the year), third place – Tim
Moonan (5.69 pounds), fourth place – Steve Sherk and Mike
Sostakowski (5.60 pounds) and fifth place – Mike Alviti (5.00
pounds).

Boser and Boser caught the biggest fish (3.60 pounds).

Mike and Tim Yohe were the winners during the second day of the
championship. The Yohe brothers tipped the scales with 8.55
pounds.

“The Kinzua Outdoors tournaments provide a great environment and
are a great way of showing kids the sport of fishing,” said the
Yohe brothers.

“We caught our fish trolling crawler harnesses in shallow water
in the morning and then moved into deeper water during the middle
of the day.”

Finishers from second to fifth were Rob Kemick and Dave Bennett
(6.89 pounds), third place – Jerry and Alan Kelly (6.44 pounds,
also runner-up champions), fourth place – Boser and Boser (6.16
pounds) and fifth place – John Carney and Robert Webb (5.80
pounds).

The big fish was caught by the Yohe brothers (3.21 pounds).

Mathew Boser was awarded youth angler of the year. Runner-up
youth of the year was Nick Pire.

The female of the year award went to Linda Ordiway.

Over $10,000 in prizes were handed out.

There was over $2,000 raised and donated to CARE for
Children.

Tournament director Tom Means said, “I want to thank the local
community for helping me in so many ways.”
