The Clearfield Lady Bisons shut out the previously unbeaten
Bradford Lady Owls 2-0 in high school soccer Thursday.
In goal for Bradford was Hope Ruffner with eight saves.
“Hope was really a leader on the field today,” praised Tony
Doriguzzi, BHS coach. “We worked with her specifically this week to
deal with the Clearfield attack and she did everything we trained
for.
“Unfortunately, Clearfield scored two goals from long shots but
she played a fine game.”
Meghan Boyles was in goal for Clearfield with 11 saves.
“This loss lies squarely on my shoulders,” lamented Doriguzzi.
“We were fouled in the box in the first half and awarded a penalty
kick, which we missed. I didn’t train our girls enough for penalty
kick situations. I won’t make that mistake again.
“We’ve played Clearfield over 10 times and this is best we have
ever played them,” Doriguzzo offered. “Our girls worked extremely
hard against last year’s District 9 champions until the final
whistle. I am proud of their effort.”
The Lady Owls (5-1) are back in action Saturday hosting
Jamestown, N.Y.
In JV action, Bradford topped Clearfield 2-1.
Miranda Whiteman scored twice on assists from Katie Zapel and
Brooke Milbrandt. Nichole Shine was in goal with five saves.
