BHS spikers sink St. Marys

ST. MARYS – Caitlin Persichini played the game of her career and
sparked Bradford to a 25-12, 25-27, 25-13, 25-12 win over St. Marys
in high school volleyball Thursday.

Persichini racked up six digs, 13 assists, 11 points and eight
kills in the four-game win.

“Caitlin Persichini played one of the best games I’ve ever seen
her play,” said Judy Abbey, BHS head coach. “She was just all over
the floor tonight – she was the team leader. This was definitely
her breakout game – it was just a great game. Caitlin pulled out
the win for us.”

Erin Hannon turned in a solid performance as well for the Lady
Owls, collecting four blocks, 11 digs, one aces, 12 points and 10
kills.

“Hannon was excellent again on the nets,” Abbey praised. “She
had a great game.”

Also pacing the visitors were Katlyn Nelson (2 digs, 4 aces, 12
points, 8 kills), Rachel Garges (8 digs, 5 aces, 4 assists, 7
points), Jenn Hilmes (10 digs), Brittany Holsinger (3 digs, 7
points, 5 kills) and Lexie Goble (2 blocks, 3 aces, 7 points, 4
kills).

“Jenn Hilmes played probably one of the best games I’ve seen her
play in her career,” Abbey declared. “Katlyn Nelson and Lexie Goble
were tremendous on the net.

“When we pull together with a total team effort, we do well and
that’s exactly what we did, as you can see by our statistics.”

After the loss to Elk County Catholic on Tuesday, the Lady Owls
returned to practice and tweaked their strategy.

“We changed our blocking scheme and that seemed to help us a
lot,” Abbey reasoned. “It pulled people in to where they needed to
be.”

Abbey also praised the effort of the Lady Dutch.

“St. Marys played well. They came back and got us in the second
game, we were sort of lackadaisical, but we came back and picked it
up as a team the way we needed to do.”

St. Marys was a 25-10, 25-19 victor in the junior varsity
match.

The Lady Owls, now 2-1, are at the Brookville Tournament on
Saturday and then return home Tuesday hosting Johnsonburg.
