Petrovich leads shooters at BGC

The Bradford Gun Club hosted its annual W.R. Case & Sons
Cutlery Company Open Trap Shoot over the weekend.

The three-day event attracted 259 shooters who fired at 87,000
targets.

Dan Petrovich (Canton, Ohio) took the high overall title on 400
championship targets. He recorded a 96×100 in doubles 199×200 in
singles and 95×100 in the handicap event.

Challenging him were three shooters knotted at 388×400 – Raymond
Stabinski (Poland, Ohio), Joe Strucker (Rochester, N.Y.) and Brian
Whalen (Jamestown, N.Y.)

In Saturday’s preliminary handicap event, John Behrendt of
Charleroi led all shooters with a near-perfect 99×100. Close behind
with scores of 98×100 were Lewis Hague (Portersville) and Raymond
Batke (Medina, Ohio).

Scores of 98×100 led the doubles championship. After a shootoff,
Whalen took the championship trophy with Strucker settling for
first place in Class AA. Ken Kamnikar (Lorain, Ohio) and Stabinski
were one bird behind at 97×100.

Tom Herbstsommer (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) had the only perfect
200×200 to nail down the singles championship. There were six
shooters close behind at 199×200. These shooters were Grant Winck
(Youngstown, Ohio), Whalen, Jerry Dunford (Oberlin, Ohio),
Petrovich, William Zelina III (Edinboro) and Doug Worrell
(Midland).

In the handicap championship, six shooters tied at 97×100. After
three rounds of shootoffs, Flip Jendre (Youngstown, Ohio) claimed
the championship. The other shooters were Richard Hildebrandt
(Bath, N.Y.) Robert Ryhal (Hubbard, Ohio), Porter Gearhart
(Warren), Chad Orr (Rural Valley) and Pat Gainer (Bradford).
