Seven Port Allegany High School wrestlers are headed to Regionals. CLEARFIELD — A school-record three wrestlers from Port Allegany won district titles over the weekend in Clearfield during the District 9 AA Championships.

Braedon Johnson, Taro Tanaka and Isaiah Caden each won an individual district title on Saturday for the Gators. At 126 pounds, Johnson pinned Brockway’s Mark Palmer in 3:34, while Caden pinned Johnsonburg’s Dalton Stahli in 5:10 at 145 pounds. Tanaka beat Jburg’s Kaden Dennis by a 3-1 decision for the district title at 152 pounds.

Port’s Justin Young (285 pounds) and Chase Weimer (120 pounds) were each pinned in the finals of their respective weight classes, while Scott Fuller (138 pounds) and Derek Kallenborn (215 pounds) each scored pins for third place finishes.

For Jburg, Cole Casilio (160 pounds) and Nolan Shaffer (138 pounds) each won district titles themselves. Shaffer defeated Kane’s Harley Morris by a 9-3 decision in the finals. Also representing Jburg was Rayce Milliard, who decisioned Brookville’s Brecken Cieleski, 7-2, for third place.

Kane’s Ethan Illerbrun (113 pounds) was pinned by Jacob Carfley of Curwensville in the finals and Luke Ely (152 pounds) decisioned Coyha Brown of Brookville, 4-0, for third place.

Overall, Port Allegany finished second in the team standings.

In the District 4/9 AAA Championships, St. Marys’ Nick Crisp (172 pounds) and Waylon Wehler (189 pounds) each won district crowns, while the Dutchmen’s Tristan Dilley (138 pounds) and Bradford’s Devon Poe (113 pounds) and Brett Thompson (132 pounds) earned third place finishes. Poe and Thompson fell short of advancing to regionals after losing their true second matches.

“There’s marked improvement in all of them,” Bradford coach Jamey Miller said of his team.

Overall, 17 wrestlers from the IU9 bubble will compete at the PIAA Regionals next Saturday.
