The Bradford City Water Authority announced at its short Tuesday meeting that bids for another timber sale from authority property will be accepted into November.
This is the authority’s third timber sale this fall.
According to Executive Director Kim Benjamin, this sale will be for about 878,000 board feet of multi-species hardwoods from the Heffner Point area. The bid opening will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 17.
“That will be advertised in The Era this week,” said Benjamin. Bid details may also be procured from Generations Forestry, P.O. Box 319, Kane, PA 16735.
As Benjamin explained for a recent article in The Era, 50 percent of the authority’s timber sale and mineral profits go to Bradford City. Mayor Tom Riel reported the city uses the money for capital improvement projects.
Benjamin also updated the authority on two ongoing projects: the rehabilitation of the Gilbert Dam and updates to two tank sites.
He said of the Gilbert Dam project, “The roller-compacted concrete phase is now complete.”
Benjamin said close to 70 percent of the rehab project is done, and “We’re still looking at a mid-2016 date to finish.” Construction will continue into this work season as weather permits.
Meanwhile, regarding the tank project, he explained electric valve actuators will be added to to a Kendall Avenue tank and a tank by the #4 Reservoir.
“We’re going to require another field visit to look at the piping before we move forward,” Benjamin said. A visit will be scheduled in the next couple of weeks and will include Bankson Engineers and representatives from valve component manufacturers.
The water authority will meet next at noon Nov. 24.
