Four Bradford students have won the LeRoy G. Erickson Memorial Scholarship for 2020. Established in 1991 by Bradford banker LeRoy Erickson for graduating seniors of Bradford High, the four-year scholarships can also be sought for vocational 2-year programs.
The winners for 2020 are Anna Anderson (attending Slippery Rock University), Alivia Laird (going to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford), Aliya Webster (Penn State — Behrend), and Emma Webster (Penn State – Behrend). This year the selection committee meetings and the student interviews were conducted via Zoom.
These students can re-apply each year, and for the past decade the scholarships have averaged $3,519 per student per year. Information about the LeRoy G. Erickson is available on the Bradford Area Schools website and applications are available in the counselor office of the high school.
Former chair of the selection committee for 20 years, Madeline Miles says “meeting these stellar students, reading their essays and learning about their life goals was a thrill.” She encourages incoming seniors to consider applying for an Erickson Scholarship, one of the most generous that is available locally.
