Elk: The longest trail

Some trails are longer than others, involve many twists and turns and their ending is often surprising. My Grandfather trailed an elk for over 50 years, before he reached it's surprising end. This photo shows two Benezette, Pennsylvania bulls dueling. The long obsolete cartridge shown to the left is the last of Grandfather's shells from the 1920's, a Western 35 Remington loaded with a 150 grain OPE bullet. That shell has a remarkable story to tell as you'll soon see.
