KANE — A Port Allegany man was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision around 2:20 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 6, two miles east of Port Allegany Borough in Liberty Township.
Robert Bowes, 27, of Port Allegany, was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County deputy coroner Robert Hartle, according to Kane-based state police.
Police said a pick-up truck operated by Jerver Fernandez, 31, of Nescopeck, was traveling east on Route 6, when it crossed the center line during the negotiation of a left curve in the roadway and struck head-on a westbound car driven by Bowes.
After the initial impact, the pick-up truck continued east, spinning counterclockwise, and then came to rest in the eastbound lane, according to police.
Police said Bowes’ car spun clockwise and came to rest on the north berm of the westbound lane.
Fernandez was wearing a seatbelt and suffered severe injury as a result of the crash, according to police.
Police said the four passengers in Bowes’ car, Crystal Hurd and three children aged 2, 3 and 4, all suffered moderate injuries. Hurd and Bowes were both wearing seatbelts and the children were secured in child safety seats, according to police.
Police said an investigation into the crash continues.
They were assisted on scene by members of Star Hose Co. of Port Allegany, Port Allegany and Coudersport ambulances and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Vehicles were towed from the scene, according to police.
