Patricia Mayer

SMETHPORT — Patricia Edith “Shelley” Mayer, 91, died Sunday (Nov. 9, 2025) at her daughter’s home in Canadohta Lake.

A daughter of Ida Leet Shelley and Arthur Shelley, she was a lifetime resident of Pierce Brook and graduated from Smethport Area High School.

A very active person in the community, she was a charter member of the Smethport Ambulance Service, served on the board of directors as secretary, was an ambulance driver, EMT and EMT instructor. She was a disaster liaison for the American Red Cross, serving during hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. She manned the EMS first aid booth at McKean county fair for 20-plus years.

She was the director of the Eldred Senior Center from 1989 until her retirement in 2000. She was previously employed with the Office of Human Services/Office of Aging, and was a McKean County foster parent.

She enjoyed making blue ribbon quilts for her family and displaying them at the fair. She was named Volunteer of the Year by the Smethport Chamber of Commerce, and she was active at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and with its Women’s Group.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Cathy) Mayer of Bradford, Lorraine (Lori) Mayer of Eldred and Valerie (Richard) Kinney of Canadohta Lake, and Angela Mayer/Brown and foster son Gary (Charmaine) Stingel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her granddaughters Wendy Angell, Julie Angell and Kendra Tyler; brother, Kenneth Shelley; and sister, Judy Shelley; and daughter-in-law, Mary Mayer.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 15, 2025) at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, Main Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Women or Smethport Food Bank.
