PORT ALLEGANY — Richard G. Lathrop, 87, of Port Allegany passed away Saturday (Oct. 25, 2025) at his home.

He was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Crosby, a son of Ellsworth and Anna Weidert Lathrop Sr. On Dec. 7, 1978, in Port Allegany, he married Darlene  F. Niles, who died Aug. 12, 2024.

Mr. Lathrop attended Smethport High School and worked at Viko in Eldred and later as a mechanic for Dexter-Henkel, retiring in 2000. He also was a van driver for S. Wilson until 2020.

He is survived by three daughters, Nicole (Mike) Torpey, Christi Lathrop and Cheryl Lathrop, all of Port Allegany; one son, Rich (Melissa) Lathrop of Milford, Del.; one stepson, Brent (Ryan) Niles of Port Allegany; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mike and Andy Lathrop of Eldred and Paul Lathrop of Crosby; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Lathrop, and son, Keith Lathrop; five sisters, Mary Jo Cook, Orvie Luce, Betty Corbett, Anna Mae Uber and Pauline Black; and four brothers, Jim, Ellsworth, George and Donald Lathrop.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes, there will be no services.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Norwich Township Fire Department of Crosby or Port Allegany Ambulance.
