Independence Day celebrations are set throughout the region for this week and the weekend.

Events begin today with celebrations and a few fireworks displays.

Allegany State Park in Salamanca, N.Y., will hold a celebration at the Quaker Beach area beginning at noon with a chicken barbecue by the Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department.

At 6 p.m., music will be provided by Allegany’s own Artist in Residence, Keith James, an accomplished pop singer/songwriter from Buffalo, N.Y. The headlining act will be Jillian Eliza beginning at 7:30 p.m. Other activities during the event will include the Naturalist Table from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Quaker Bathhouse. Capping off the evening will be a firework display over the waters of Quaker Lake.

The 2nd Annual Freedom Fest will be held at Bradford Alliance Church, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Free food and games will be held, and a bounce house will be available. After the event, stay to watch the fireworks at dusk at nearby Pennhills Club.

In St. Marys, visitors are welcome to begin arriving at the St. Marys Area School District’s Dutch Country Stadium at 5:45 p.m. At 6 p.m., a home run derby will begin on the Lady Dutch softball game field. From 6 to 7 p.m. will be Little League baseball with ages 9 to 12. The men’s softball league will begin at 7 p.m. A $5 donation is required, with proceeds going toward the fireworks.

A food and beverage area will be available at the stadium. Several activities are planned as well.

From 6 to 9 p.m. at the high school building will be an open house at the fitness center, an open swim and an open gym.

At 9:40 p.m., the firetruck will signal a “5 minute warning” for lights to be turned off, and the fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m.

On Thursday, Bradner Stadium in Olean, N.Y., will be the site of the annual Olean firefighters’ display at dusk, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m., the Seneca Allegany Casino will hold a fireworks display, with a rain date of Sunday.

Several events are scheduled for the weekend as well.

Austin, Emporium and Galeton all will be holding fireworks on Saturday.

The Emporium fireworks will cap off the Weekend in the Wilds celebration, set for Friday and Saturday in Emporium. The fireworks will be held at dusk at the Cameron County High School football field.

It’s the 35th annual Goodyear Hose Company’s Red Suspender Weekend in Galeton on Friday and Saturday. The 2019 Independence Day parade will begin at 11 a.m., leaving from the school grounds and traveling on Germania Street, Union Street and West Street.

Firemen’s water battles, food, crafts, vendors and rides will begin at noon.

Parade trophies will be awarded at 1 p.m. at the park pavilion.

Performances by Downbeat Percussion and the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe Band will begin at 1 p.m. in the park pavilion as well, and live music will last all day.

The fireworks display will kick off at 10 p.m.

The Austin Pride Committee is hosting the annual Austin Area Fireworks Display at the Austin Area Jr./Sr. High school on Saturday to celebrate Independence Day. Vendors and concessions will be onsite and open at 5 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark.
