COUDERSPORT — Criminal charges have been filed against the alleged driver in a motor vehicle accident that damaged a parked car, a garage and business in Genesee Township.

Coudersport-based state police said Kevin Ruggiero, 57, of Genesee, faces five counts of DUI-alcohol or a controlled substance and one count each of moving stopped or parked vehicle, limitations on backing, careless driving, reckless driving and occupant protection.

According to police, at 8:14 p.m. June 25 at 316 Commercial St., Genesee, Ruggiero drove his pick-up truck in reverse at a high rate of speed, struck a pillar of Reed’s Market with the passenger door, continued across Commercial Street, and struck a vehicle that was parked in a driveway.

The force from Ruggiero’s truck caused the parked vehicle to push forward into the garage it was parked in front of, causing “extensive damage to the building,” police said.

Ruggiero was transported to UPMC Cole by state police, and his truck had to be towed from the scene, according to police.
