LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. — The body of a middle-aged white male from the village was found in Little Valley Creek about 12:25 p.m. Tuesday off South Court Street, near the Third Street bridge.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office investigators and Coroner Kevin O’Rourke responded and closed off Third and Court streets to through traffic.

Investigators, led by Capt. Robert Yehl, photographed and took measurements at the scene and later interviewed family members and friends of the deceased, who was identified by the sheriff’s office as Kyle J. Michener, and was last seen Monday night.

Michener’s body was to be transported to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for an autopsy.

A department spokesman said a 911 call was received at 12:20 p.m. about an adult male being found in the creek near the Third Street bridge.

“We’re investigating the circumstances,” said Lt. David Schuman. Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol or foul play were involved, he added.

Michener, who was lightly dressed for the weather, appeared to have been in the water overnight.

Michener was last seen alive Monday night, investigators said. Family members with whom he lived called the sheriff’s office Monday morning expressing concern, and at least one family member went out looking for Michener, finding his body in the creek.
