About Timeless Treasures

Sheryl Silvis and her husband Merle opened a gift shop back in 2006 and they decided to call it Timeless Treasures.  Merle had previously owned and operated his own gift shop while still married to his ex-wife, and he had enjoyed running one.  Therefore, he and Sheryl decided to try it out as well.

Sheryl said, “We both enjoy searching for unique treasures, so having the gift shop is a good fit.”

They actually got their gift shop started by renting out a space in Main Street Mercantile, because they offered to help them get started by moving into the building.  Sheryl, Merle and their family operated the little gift shop out of Main Street Mercantile for about four and a half years, with Sheryl and her daughter, Christie Smith, working there on weekends.  Sheryl and Merle both worked full-time jobs while they operated the store there, with Sheryl working at Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Merle working for the City of Bradford Fire Department.

They outgrew the space offered in Main Street Mercantile and decided to move into their own building.  They found a building over on Chestnut Street in Bradford and renovated it to suit their needs.  The building had housed two stores prior to them purchasing it, so they reorganized it for their gift shop and moved in.  Sheryl still works part-time at BRMC performing clerical and x-ray work.  Merle has retired from the fire department, but he still works two part-time jobs, one at BRMC in security and with Bradford Township Code Enforcement.

As such, Sheryl and Merle rely on their family to help them run Timeless Treasures.  Christie also works up in the x-ray department at BRMC, and so she and Sheryl switch back and forth between working there and at the gift shop.  Sheryl had this to say about her family helping them out, “It’s a family run business and so everyone pitches in when needed, including my son Kyle Grandinetti.”

Kyle also holds another part-time job in addition to helping out at Timeless Treasures.  They all pull it together in order to offer the Bradford community with the unique treasures they stock in their store.  Their offerings include children’s clothes, including some USA made lines, and they carry sizes up to 24-month.  As such, they stand out as one of only a few locations in town that sell children’s clothes.

Also for the children, they stock the area’s largest selection of toys from the Melissa & Doug toy line.  They also stand out as only one of a few places in the area that offer those toys that also stand out as USA made.  This points to one of their goals with the store as Sheryl said they try to offer as many USA made products as possible.

According to Sheryl, “We also try to offer different items from other local shops because they get their merchandise at the same gift shows we do, so we try to buy different items.  I check out other shops to ensure as little overlap as possible.”

Sheryl said when it comes to what sets them apart she feels that, “It’s more of a feeling.  As one woman said to me the other day, you walk in here and you feel comfortable.  You feel like you’ve come home.”

Merle said he feels they set themselves apart because, “We offer a wide variety of items.”

Sheryl also feels their name helps them stand out as well as she said, “A couple stopped in earlier today thinking we were an antique store because of our name.  I like to tell people we sell the antiques of the future.”
