About Carpet Town/Carpet One
Carpet Served-up Right; With That Good-Old Personal Touch
Dennis Wyant embarked on his journey into the great beyond that is the furniture business when he opened the doors at Carpet Town Furniture back in 1968. The store continued-on in its success and in 1987, Carpet Town Furniture joined the Carpet One Co-op. This partnership gave Dennis the stronger buying power that comes along with a national corporation, while still enabling him to keep ownership of his store. Dennis pointed out that local residents own and operate all of Carpet One’s locations nationwide.
The partnership did prove to have its share of difficulties at first, as many local residents who had known the business as Carpet Town, didn’t realize the company had simply changed its name to Carpet One after the merge. In order to alleviate the public’s confusion, Dennis and his partners decided they would advertise as both Carpet Town and Carpet One, since Carpet Town had planted itself into the local area’s public perception so well.
The company resided in the present Pool Mart building from 1979 up until 1990, when they moved into their current building in Westons Mills. They had originally named the whole building Carpet Town Furniture and the carpet and flooring just resided in the store as its own department. A few years back, however, they decided to separate the store and transform it into its current form with both Ashley Furniture and Carpet One residing alongside each other in the building.
Dennis currently shares ownership of the two stores with seven partners, but he is the only one of the owners whose focus lies with Carpet One. The other seven take care of the Ashley Furniture side of the business instead. That just goes to show you it takes all kinds of people with various outlooks and life-stories to run a successful business.
Carpet One’s staff consists of five employees. Dennis helps run the store as a partnered owner of course, while Ben Perkins runs things in the office as the Office Manager and fills in on the sales floor from time-to-time. Julie Theodore and Alicia Harris take care of customers out on the sales floor, while Julie serves as the Sales Manager as well. And last, but certainly not least, Ray Klein keeps things running smoothly in the background of the store serving as the Warehouse Manager. All of them work together to keep Carpet One running as a “well-oiled machine.”
Despite what the name implies, however, Carpet One sells more than its namesake product. “Many people come in and don’t realize we sell more than just carpet, we sell all the different types of flooring,” stated Julie. These flooring types include hardwood, laminate, vinyl, bamboo, cork, tile, carpet and area rugs. The store carries pretty-much all the major brand names in flooring, including Armstrong, Shaw, Mohawk and Beaulieu. Carpet One also offers a few brands exclusive to their stores, such as Lees, Resista and Invincible.
They are flooring experts with all of them having been in the business for at least 10 years. That means if there is anything you need to know or buy, they can provide you with that service. They will do so with that personal touch you would expect from Small-Town US of A as well.
Alicia stated that she believes their customer-service is what sets them apart from other places in the area. Julie said that proves true because of the plain and simple fact that they treat the customers who visit the store as if they are family, instead of just another sale. So stop on down and see the friendly associates at Carpet One, and remember this, they’re also people who live life with you, right in your neighborhood!
