Embattled Bradford City Police Chief Hiel “Butch” Bartlett has resigned.
According to the agenda for Tuesday’s Bradford City Council meeting, Bartlett resigned by letter dated July 16, with the resignation going into effect on Aug. 17.
Reached Monday afternoon, Mayor James McDonald, who had named Bartlett to the post as of the beginning of 2020, said he could not comment.
“I cannot comment on the situation at this time but can assure you that more information will be made available during (Tuesday) evening's council meeting,” the mayor said.
Bartlett had no comment when reached by the Era.
While the agenda had noted a separation agreement and release, and a waiver of claims between Bartlett and the city, those documents were unavailable on Monday.
Bartlett had been on administrative leave since a complaint of misconduct was made against him involving an arrest of Matthew Confer on May 5. The leave had been paid until July 17, when city officials said it changed to unpaid leave. Unbeknownst to the public at that time, Bartlett had submitted his letter of resignation one day earlier.
