As snow fell heavily at times Tuesday, it was fittingly a main topic at the Lewis Run Borough Council meeting.

It was announced the one-ton borough truck has been fixed and the borough is still waiting for the new truck’s arrival.

The new truck is expected at the end of the month, after originally being expected at the end of December. Once the truck arrives it will be fitted with a plow and sander, as well as any other necessary attachments.

The problem with the current borough truck was diagnosed as the starter and a flywheel and was fixed for $550. The bill was an improvement over the predicted $1,800 for replacing the motor, which was originally thought to be the problem. Repairs were done by Ed Hallock.

In a related note, the accelerator pedal on the garbage packer is currently not working correctly. Two prices have been found for the replacement part, one from GTM Sales East Inc. in Custer City and one for Beaver Valley, who had previously worked on the packer. The less expensive replacement part would be from GTM, plus that would eliminate a need to travel to Beaver Valley to retrieve the part.

Also announced was the completion of work on the city water interconnect with the borough’s lines. The lines are now underground. The project cost $1,766 for materials and labor, a much lower number then the bids for the project, which were all more than $2,000.

One lingering problem with the project is the computer has failed to successfully control the valve. The valve is being operated manually until the issue can be fixed. It is hoped to be dirt in the gate valve, rather then a more serious issue.

The fire department report was read at Tuesday’s meeting. At the end of the report, area residents with fire hydrants near their home were reminded to keep the hydrant shoveled out and free of snow.

Snow plowing issues were discussed at the meeting as well. Residents are reminded it is against state law to plow snow into the roadway and are encouraged to keep snow out of the borough truck’s plow zone.

During new business it was announced that the National Incident Management System, or NIMS, will be completed by the end of the month. Lewis Run is one of the few municipalities to have its NIMS completed already.

Also, a municipal agreement on water, sewer and mutual aid between fire departments and other sectors is currently in the works. The council will look at that thoroughly once it is completed.
