BLOU THANKS: Jay Monti writes, “Blou and I just read the paper and he asked me to thank you for the coverage. He and all the animals that he has and will continue to help thank you very much.”
We had mentioned that local border collie and celebrity Blou has been the “cover dog” on the labels of a beer specially brewed for dogs, Bowser Beer.
Citing Blou’s webpage, we had also mentioned how he raises money for the Emergency Pet program.
Jay tells us his donations now total more than $30,000.
“In addition to helping the animals, Blou has been the mascot for the Letters From Home Program and attended a packing party on Sunday (Nov. 23) to lend moral support to a group of wonderful people who packed over 5,000 gift boxes which were sent out to service people around the world,” Jay writes.
MORE NUTS: Pat Franco, one of the people who dropped off some chestnut samples as part of our ongoing discussion of the subject, tells us that about 50 years ago, the government planted some small American chestnut trees in the Little Miami area.
“I remember it was wired so the deer couldn’t get in there and destroy them. I don’t know what they might have planted those at Rimrock also.”
Pat tells us the samples he dropped off were American chestnuts off the property of Jean Hvizdzak. The trees had been planted about 20 years ago.
“Also some years ago, I found one growing wild in Rew. It would have about six or so nuts on it and was about 20-30 feet tall, but it would die every few years and new ones would come up in their place,” Pat reports.
TODAY’S QUOTE: “What is desecration of the flag if not the expression of a disagreeable idea. And what is more disagreeable in this robust and wonderful democracy of ours than prohibiting expression of an idea?” said Douglas Clifton, former editor, Cleveland Plain Dealer.
As always, today’s quote is from the Freedom Forum calendar. The Freedom Forum is devoted to free press, free speech, and free spirit.
