Sara likes the Browns’ orange helmets on HD
By SARA EDDY OKERLUND Special to The Era
Say it with me! To the tune of “You can’t stop him!” J.P. Los-man!
Just kidding. I won’t even go that far “ yet. But really, what’s with Trent?
He started the year looking like a seasoned quarterback getting his second wind and now he just looks like a winded quarterback in his second season. In the first six games, Edwards threw six touchdowns and two INTs. In the last three, he’s thrown two touchdowns and five INTs.
So you see what I mean. I think he just needs to treat himself to some new hair gel, maybe get a manicure and come back refreshed in Week 11.
Edwards’ counterpart this week, Brady Quinn, will make just his second NFL start. He certainly looked like the right choice to start for Cleveland even though the Browns lost 34-30 in Week 10.
Quinn, an Ohio native, is poised to pick up his first win in prime time and it would be his second if not for a defensive collapse last week. This was made for Monday Night. The only way it could be more perfect for the hometown (pretty) boy would be if the Browns were at home.
With a full slate of games, minus Thursday of course, here are my Week 11 selections.
DENVER AT ATLANTA - So we just finished cycling through our satellite TV guide to see what games are on TV this weekend and this contest isn’t one of them. Right about now is when you wish for Sunday Ticket. I’d like to watch these two young quarterbacks face off. ATLANTA 31-27
BALTIMORE AT NEW YORK GIANTS - Joe Flacco has thrown six touchdown passes against no interceptions in the last four weeks and the Giants have never, no never, beaten the Ravens (0-3). But the real story here is the best rushing offense (NYG) squaring off against the best rush defense (BAL). What exactly will happen when Brandon Jacobs collides with Ray Lewis? I don’t know but I bet we feel it all the way up here in Bradford. NEW YORK 21-16
MINNESOTA AT TAMPA BAY - I wonder where the Vikings would be now if not for Tarvaris Jackson’s poor play to open the season ... A win could vault the Vikes to the top of the NFC North. MINNESOTA 26-17
OAKLAND AT MIAMI - This is a great opportunity for 5-4 Miami to take another step forward and away from a .500 record. The 2-7 Raiders are not primed for a win in Florida this week. Look for Joey Porter to have a big game rushing the quarterback, which will be Andrew Walter if JaMarcus Russell can’t go on his now-problematic right knee. MIAMI 24-14
DETROIT AT CAROLINA - Another good opportunity for the home team. Carolina can improve to 8-2 with a win against the 0-9 Lions. I feel that’s likely. Apparently, the last time the Panthers started 8-2 they showed up in Super Bowl XXXVIII. That’s 38 to those of you who don’t speak Roman. CAROLINA 31-12
PHILADELPHIA AT CINCINNATI - The 5-4 Eagles cannot afford a letdown on the road against a team like the 1-8 Bengals. And, oh, how easy it would be for that to happen. Eagles beware. PHILADELPHIA 23-21
CHICAGO AT GREEN BAY - Green Bay’s special teams defense allows just seven yards per punt return and has yet to give up a kick-return touchdown. That’s not good news for Devin Hester, who has yet to score a touchdown on a kickoff return. GREEN BAY 27-17
NEW ORLEANS AT KANSAS CITY - In the AFC West standings, the 1-8 Chiefs are looking up at the Oakland Raiders. That’s not a good sign. And the Saints will be energized in their first real home game in more than a month. NEW ORLEANS 34-21
HOUSTON AT INDIANAPOLIS - Matt Schaub is out and Bob Sanders is in. In a big way. The Colts were just waiting, waiting, waiting for their defensive leader to get healthy. He is and with him the Colts have won their last two. Also, the Colts have never lost to Houston at home. Chalk up another W. INDY 32-14
ST. LOUIS AT SAN FRANCISCO - I saved this game for last because I was pretty sure there’d be nothing left to say. I was right. SAN FRANCISCO 17-7
ARIZONA AT SEATTLE -The Seahawks’ season is a lot like my cat Bustadouglas. Stay with me here. When I brought our dog Dauber home for the first time, Buster literally ran up the wall and then hid behind the microwave for a week. See? Poor things. ARIZONA 38-13
TENNESSEE AT JACKSONVILLE -The Jaguars managed to amass just 189 total yards against the Titans’ defense in their Week 1 clash. Those numbers will probably improve in Week 11, but the end result will probably be the same. TENNESSEE 28-20
SAN DIEGO AT PITTSBURGH - Philip Rivers’ 106.3 passer rating is tops in the AFC, while Pittsburgh’s defense leads the entire NFL. I guess I’ll take the best defense in both leagues over the best passer in one in this, a tough nut to crack. PITTSBURGH 23-16
DALLAS AT WASHINGTON - Dallas QB T-Ro returns from a broken pinkie in a contest that doesn’t mean quite as much as we thought it might a few weeks ago. Should still be a good one and it still could bring the Cowboys closer to second place in the division. WASHINGTON 28-22
CLEVELAND AT BUFFALO - I’m still ticked and anyway it’s nice to watch the Browns’ helmets in HD. CLEVELAND 14-12
