MOUNT JEWETT (EC) — The Mount Jewett Charter Coalition submitted their amended charter school application Friday to the Kane Area School District.

This comes after the coalition decided earlier this summer to postpone the process due to the lack of time to open the charter school once approved, according to a coalition press release.

Instead, the coalition members decided to make some modifications they deemed necessary to the application and resubmit with the intention of getting the approval from the Kane Area School District or the Pennsylvania Charter Appeals Board. Skye Ognen, president of the Mount Jewett Charter Coalition, said Friday, “If the school district approves the charter application, then the charter will be granted.

“Among the modifications were additional information in the curriculum section and other minor changes,” Ognen said. “We will still maintain small class sizes.”

With the submission of the amended application, the Kane Area School District will have 45 days to hold a public hearing on the charter application.

The coalition plans to open the charter school in Mount Jewett for the 2009-10 school year.
