Owls pick up first win, notch 2-1 OT victory over Olean

OLEAN, N.Y. - Tyree Bennett scored in overtime to send Bradford past Olean High 2-1 in the opening round of the Olean Soccer Tournament on Thursday.

Bennett’s marker came off a free kick from Stephen Tingley.

Patrick Morrisroe had the Owls’ other goal on an assist from Bennett.

Devin Zelko was in goal for the Owls (1-3), making nine saves.

Louis Proto scored unassisted for the Huskies. Mike Powell was in the net for Olean, stopping seven shots.

“It feels good to finally get the first win of the season,” BAHS coach Wes Lohrman noted. “We were coming off a tough loss to Erie Prep, which our players took as a positive learning experience.

“From the beginning of tonight’s game you could see they wanted to change the way the season was going. We were passing a lot better than we had been. These guys are ready to make a new face for Bradford High soccer.

“We are just in the beginning stages. We have a lot of tough games ahead of us. We are working on staying focused and improving with each game.”

Lohrman praised the play of Bennett.

“Tyree moved more into an attacking defensive role,” Lohrman admitted. “He helped us out in the middle. He was in the right place at the right time for the winning goal.

“I couldn’t be happier for Tyree and this entire team. He did his part to make sure the team was successful tonight.”

In the other first-round contest, Hornell blanked Jamestown 2-0.

The Owls will play Hornell at noon Saturday for the title.

In the JV tournament, Bradford (1-1) beat Olean 5-1. Justin Rensel (2 goals), Justin Hart (1 goal), Jordan Packard (1 goal) and Colton Bly (1 goal) led the JV Owls.

Tanner Danielson and Ritchie Cromley combined on seven saves in the net for Bradford.
